Directions to Hannagan Meadow Lodge

Hannagan Meadow Lodge is located in far-Eastern Arizona, near the New Mexico border. We are approximately 22 miles south of Alpine on the Coronado Trail (Highway 191), near mile marker 232.

In the wake of 9/11 and increasing concerns about travel safety, Hannagan Meadow Lodge is a perfect getaway destination for those who would rather drive than fly. Directions from major markets:

FROM PHOENIX:

Route #1 (approx. 4½ hours) takes you through the beautiful Salt River Canyon. It is a less-heavily traveled route, but does include a short distance of quick turns through the mountains. Take the US-60 freeway east towards Mesa, and exit #154 to Globe. Continue on US-60 east through Superior and Globe, north through Show Low, and east again through Springerville and Eager. Take US-191 south through Alpine. Hannagan Meadow is approximately 22 miles past Alpine on the west side of the highway, near mile marker 232.

Route #2 (270 miles, approx. 5 hours) takes you through the Mogollon Rim country. There are no hairpin turns. The surrounding communities are busier than on Route #1, and provide more opportunities for shopping, etc. along the way, but may have more traffic that can slow down your travel. Take the SR-87 north to Payson; SR-260 east to Heber/Overgard then to Show Low; US-60 east through Springerville and Eager; and US-191 south through Alpine. Hannagan Meadow is approximately 22 miles past Alpine on the west side of the highway, near mile marker 232.

Route #3 (approx. 6 hours) takes you on the beautiful Coronado Trail north from the mining town of Clifton. It is a gorgeous drive if you have the time to spare to travel more slowly and enjoy the views. There are numerous twists and turns to the roads through the mountains, and this route is not recommended during the winter months. Take the US-60 freeway east towards Mesa, and exit #154 to Globe. Continue on US-60 east through Globe onto US-70, south to Safford. Take US-191 north through Clifton/Morenci and continue until you reach Hannagan Meadow near mile marker 232. NOTE! The 70 miles between Morenci and Hannagan Meadow have 525 sharp curves and many steep drop-offs. The road can be unforgiving to RV's and vehicles pulling trailers, and is closed completely when it is snowing and unplowed in winter.


FROM TUCSON:

Route #1 (approx. 5 hours) takes you north through the beautiful Salt River Canyon. It is a less-heavily traveled route, but does include a short distance of quick turns through the mountains. Take SR-77 north to Globe, then US-60 north through Show Low, and east again through Springerville and Eager. Take US-191 south through Alpine. Hannagan Meadow is approximately 22 miles past Alpine on the west side of the highway, near mile marker 232.

Route #2 (268 miles, approx. 5½ hours) takes you east of Tucson before heading north. Take I-10 east through Benson and Willcox. Take US-191 north to Safford and then east and north again to Clifton/Morenci. Continue on US-191 north and continue until you reach Hannagan Meadow near mile marker 232. NOTE! The 70 miles between Morenci and Hannagan Meadow have 525 sharp curves and many steep drop-offs. The road can be unforgiving to RV's and vehicles pulling trailers, and is closed completely when it is snowing and unplowed in winter.


FROM FLAGSTAFF:

(225 miles, approx. 3½ hours) Takes you east across Northern Arizona through beautiful pine trees. Take I-40 east through Winslow to Holbrook. Take SR-77 south to Show Low. Take US-60 east through Springerville and Eager; and US-191 south through Alpine. Hannagan Meadow is approximately 22 miles past Alpine on the west side of the highway, near mile marker 232.


FROM ALBUQUERQUE:

(262 miles, approx. 5½ hours) Take I-40 west through Gallup to US-191 near Sanders, Arizona. Go south on US-191 through St. Johns, Springerville and Eager. Take US-191 south through Alpine. Hannagan Meadow is approximately 22 miles past Alpine on the west side of the highway, near mile marker 232.


FROM EL PASO:

(297 miles, approx. 6 hours) Take I-25 north and then I-10 west through Deming. Take US-70 north and then SR-75 north to US-191 north through Clifton/Morenci. Continue until you reach Hannagan Meadow near mile marker 232.
