WARM
WEATHER (no snow) ACTIVITIES...
The
weather is never actually “warm” at Hannagan Meadow – merely “cooler”
and without snow! In fact, Hannagan is the perfect getaway from
the searing temperatures of lower-elevation cities. You’ll find
that daytime temperatures support shorts or pants and short-sleeve
shirts, while a light jacket or sweatshirt will be required when
the sun goes down and in the early morning hours. Dramatic periodic
thunderstorms can also be common during July and August. All in
all, the crisp air of spring through fall will make your spirits
soar!
Several warm weather activities are available right at Hannagan
Meadow Lodge, and equipment may also be available for rent (or you
can bring your own!). Guests
are encouraged to make advance arrangements for the equipment and
activities. The Hannagan Meadow Stables behind the cabins offers
hourly horseback trail rides and overnight
horseback camping trips through the
beautiful forest surrounding the Lodge. NOTE: The horses
are not on the property at all times. Please call the lodge
(928 339-4370) to make sure the horses are available if you want
to ride.
Enjoy fishing? The surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest
is also considered one of the top forests in the nation for fishing.
It contains over 450 miles of streams and nearly 2,000 surface acres
of cold water lakes. Fish species include Arctic Grayling, Rainbow,
German Brown, Brook, Apache, and Cutthroat trout. Bring your favorite
fishing gear and try your luck!
Hannagan Meadow Lodge can also offer you expert individual or small-group
flyfishing instruction from Wendy Kruger of www.azmtflyfishing.com.
Wendy has over 17 years of coaching experience, allowing her to
bring out the best in both novice and experienced fishermen. Her
local botannical and historical knowledge also add another dimension
to a day out, enjoying the beautiful Eastern Arizona mountains and
rivers. Wendy knows that some of the Arizona flyfishing can be found
right near Hannagan Meadow Lodge! We can help to arrange this memorable
experience for you.
Hannagan Meadow is a nature lover’s paradise. You'll find spectacular
scenery in the White Mountains that has attracted photographers
the world over, and well-know local photographers such as Sam Nigray
of Arizona Highways Magazine. Bird watchers and nature enthusiasts
have unlimited material to study and enjoy. Picnickers can take
advantage of the forests directly behind the Lodge, or head to the
area’s natural water features, including Black River, Blue River,
Luna Lake and Ackre Lake.
We
run motorized buggy rides from May through October (during the warmer
months) on the forest service roads to see wildlife and other White
Mountain wonders. We also make a stop at the Blue Vista lookout.
The buggy seats 8 (including the driver) and has roll-down side
panels in case of inclement weather. The price is $20 an hour per
person for adults, $15 for children 6-12; and $10 for children 5
and under. We run 1 hr, 2 hour, or 4 hour tours (which includes
lunch at the river.) Reservations can be made by calling the lodge,
or signing up at the front desk while you are here. Watch the Arizona
Highways Television feature on the Buggy rides.
