A favorite among both beginners and experienced riders, Clelle Loop is the summer version of the lodge’s cross-country ski trail system. Starting right outside the front door, this 6-mile single-track loop winds through serene meadows and shaded pine forests. The terrain features moderate grades that are ideal for riders with some single-track experience, and you can opt to hop onto the pavement around mile three to ride Highway 191 back uphill to the lodge.

This is a perfect warm-up ride or a refreshing afternoon loop after a morning of exploring.

Hannagan Loop

The Hannagan Loop is a moderate 10-mile ride that captures everything great about mountain biking in Alpine. Guided rides are available for around $25 per rider, making it an excellent choice for groups or families who want to explore safely while learning about the area’s natural history.

Eric’s Ride

For riders looking for a true adventure, Eric’s Ride offers a 21-mile backcountry journey through rugged terrain and sweeping vistas. At $50 per person (including lunch and bike rental if needed), this guided experience is perfect for those who enjoy long descents and epic views. Some prior mountain biking experience is recommended.

Mountain Biking Safety Tips

The number one rule of mountain biking? Always wear a helmet. But that’s just the beginning. Other essential gear includes protective glasses or goggles, a lightweight jacket, gloves, sturdy shoes, and a hydration backpack.

Weather in Northern Arizona can be unpredictable. Even in summer, the desert sun can be intense, and sudden storms can roll through the mountains. Always pack plenty of water, electrolyte packets, and sunscreen. A small first aid kit, multi-tool, and tire repair kit are also must-haves.

Before you ride, fuel up with a balanced, carb-focused meal—it’ll keep your energy steady for those long climbs. And remember: the best adventures aren’t about speed. Take breaks, enjoy the views, and ride at your own pace.
