Trails For Everyone

Located among some of Arizona’s best hiking spots, Escudilla National Recreation Trail is the perfect starting point for your outdoor adventure. It’s around three miles each way, so plan on making a day out of this moderately challenging hike. It takes you to one of the highest peaks in the state, where you can see all the way to New Mexico! Bring your camera, because you won’t want to miss out on capturing these views.


If you’re looking for something not so strenuous,
Thompson Trail is a great selection. It’s a peaceful riverside trail, taking you right past the Black River. With plenty of shade, it’s a perfect spot for an easier pace.

A Taste of the Wild

Backpacking in Arizona offers quite the thrill. The terrain around Alpine is perfect for this, without the heavy crowds you would find closer to larger cities. A good example of places to backpack would be the Blue Range Primitive Area, which is as close to untouched land as one could get. You’ll find miles of rugged backcountry just waiting to be ventured on. Just make sure you bring your GPS—there’s plenty of space to get lost in.


A bit further out from Alpine (about an hour), Bear Wallow Wilderness gives you a bit of everything: forests to explore, and meadows full of elk to view during dawn or dusk.

Fishing and Boating

The White Mountains are filled with a variety of lakes and rivers, such as Big Lake. About 20 miles outside of Alpine, it’s a local favorite for rainbow trout fishing. You can also rent a boat, bring your kayak, or chill by the shore. Luna Lake, east of Alpine, is another solid choice, especially if you want some easy-access fishing. 


Stargazing

Summer nights in Hannagan Meadow are ones that’ll leave you breathless. The clear, dark skies show off the stars, creating a relaxing atmosphere that’s nearly impossible to replicate. It’s perfect for campfires, especially at our open fireplaces. Roast some marshmallows, make some smores, and get ready for some ghost stories!


Wildlife Watching

If you’re quiet, you might just be able to spot some elk, deer, black bears, and wild turkeys roaming around. Bird watchers should stay on alert, as bald eagles, ospreys, and gorgeous mountain bluebirds soar through the skies above. 

Off-Roading

The forests around Alpine, AZ have designated OHV trails, so if you’re into off-roading, there’s plenty of space to drive around on. Just make sure you check the trail maps so you know where you’re going.


Scenic Rides

Not every adventure needs hiking boots. Take a drive along the Coronado Trail, famously referred to as “Devil’s Highway”. Not only will you get some of the best views in the area, but you can test your skills as you navigate through the switchbacks across the high desert and mountains.
